Church Schools

Church of England schools are part of the maintained (state) system of education and their Trust Deeds require them, for the most part, to serve their local communities. To that extent they are no different from community schools.

The term 'faith school' has come into common usage in the last few years. A better term would be 'schools with a distinctive Christian character'. The Trust Deeds of many of our Church Schools often state that the school was founded to 'educate the poor of this parish...' this was at a time when most children did not receive an education. These same Trust Deeds still hold good today and our Church Schools are fulfilling them. They serve their local communities and should be, as truly Christian schools, inclusive. They are about providing an education suffused with Christian ethos and values.
